Umm,duh?

Star Jones Reynolds has been candid about many issues in her life – getting fired from The View or rumors that her marriage was failing – but she's remained mum about the secret behind her weight loss.

Now, in the September issue of Glamour, she's admitting that, yes, she had gastric bypass surgery – despite previously denying she had the procedure. (See rest of the article here)

Is anyone surprised? Isn't this public knowledge already? Normal people don't just drop nearly 200 pounds in a year or two. Why lie or deny that you were doing something to help make yourself healthier? I just don't get it.

It's been 4 years today. He was a great friend, and an even better husband and soldier. Say a prayer or think good thoughts for his widow, Melanie, and his parents Les and Rafealla.

Leif had no problems making anyone feel at home, or making people feel at ease. He had this way of cracking people up....I'll always remember him walking thru the halls in his letter jacket with the biggest grin on his face, just because...

The world is missing one of its best and brightest.

Mo has tagged me again!

So here goes

The Rules: “Each person posts the rules before their list, then they list 8 things about themselves. At the end of the post, that person tags and links to other people and then visits those peoples’ sites and comments letting them know that they have been tagged, and to come read the post, so they know what they have to do.”

1. Physically, I'm not in the best shape that I have ever been in , but I am finally comfortable with it. It's me, it's who I am!.

2. Mentally, I am probably a bit unstable. Well, fickle anyway. I'm a consummate Libra: Always going back and forth between extremes trying to balance it all out.
3. Emotionally,I'm back to the Libra thing again. I don't like confrontation, but it's my nature to seek out gossip and immerse myself in it. I can be laid back about things that would tick the average person off, and become overly angry about something as minute as a speck of sand in my shoe.
4. Spiritually, I'm still "searching". I read a lot of books regarding religion and spirituality, and am coming closer to finding what rings true for me. It won't be anything over the top, but it won't be mainstream either.
5. Philosophically, I think that we are all here for a reason, and its up to us as individuals to divine that reason and act on it, you may or may not get a second chance to do it.
6. Politically, I'm liberal as all get out. Pretty much, I don't care what or who or how you do it, as long as it doesn't affect me. You're gay and want to get married? Sure go ahead! You want to stand outside an abortion clinic and protest for the "pro-life cause"...go right ahead. It's call free speech, and I love it.

7. Recreationally, eh..not so much. I like the outdoors, when I can see it thru a window of an air conditioned room. :) I love swimming, and water sports though.

8. Food-wise...I'll try pretty much anything once, and most of it I enjoy. I've never met an Asian dish that I didn't like, and rice is a must have!

Now to tag a few folks;

~ Val
~ Devon
~ Wendy

~ And anybody else who wants to play! (just leave a comment letting me know you did so I can come and see your answers!!)

Harry Potter

I got the book last night and finished it today, I was in tears knowing that it was the end, before I opened it. Flat out bawling by the time that the first third was done. :(
The first one came out the year after I graduated High School, and I picked it up the first day, and it's been a long, windy, fun and heartbreaking 10 years. I'm sad to see the end of it, but Bubba-Fat-Head is just now old enough to start reading and understanding them, so yay for that.

How to Stay Young

(credited to George Carlin)

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height.  Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. " An idle mind is the devil's workshop." And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

These are the things that bother me and keep me awake at night

Where do people come up with band names? I've seen Red Jumpsuit Aparatus, Gym Class Heroes...WTF?

What ever happened to using your damn name?

Like Fall out Boy...What the heck is that about? Fall out of what? The plane, the car? The toilet stall?

and why boy? There's like 5 idiots there in that band.

How I write: Janet Evanovich

If I had known this was going to be a “How much I love myself” book, I really wouldn’t have picked it up. She gives advice, in a Q&A format, but most of it is common sense and nothing that really stands out as “great”. A lot of the book is “excerpts” from her Stephanie Plum series (which I adore!), so it feels like a big commercial for the series. Overall, I wasn’t impressed.

Shopaholic and Baby: Sophie Kinsella

(**Classic Becky Bloomwood! If you liked the others, you’ll love this. “She’s a red-headed bitch and I hate her. Classic line!” **)

Things I do to embarrass myself, part deux!

--Listen to Larry the Cable Guy (right to Bare Arms) and laugh so hard that I snort, while at work.

Veil of Roses: Laura Fitzgerald

From the Publisher:This compelling debut follows one spirited young woman from the confines of Iran to the intoxicating freedom of America—where she discovers not only an enticing new country but the roots of her own independence. . .” Not sure if I would call this “compelling” but it’s a good read nonetheless. Fairly short, I finished it in about 2 hours (that’s a whole other story). The plot is fairly predictable, and some of the characters seem flat. (Eva –seems very hard and oversexed- Nadia –Ever the victim) but some have a very surprising turn, (Maryam re: Nadia!). I’m not seeing the “free spirited” Tamila—She seems very eager to go with what she is being told to do in regards to marriage and her friendships, rather than doing what she wants, but that could be the Iranian culture showing through. Was very surprised to see that this was actually written by an American, as it describes the culture well . (Apparently, Fitzgerald is married to an Iranian-American, which could explain it) The writing flowed very smoothly, and made it easy to read and keep up with. Looking forward to future books from Fitzgerald.)!)

Hundred Dollar Baby- Robert B. Parker

Classic Robert B. Parker! A Spencer novel, that is at times funny and thought-provoking. In this we visit with April Kyle, yet again ( Taming a Seahorse/Ceremony), but this time, she’s all grown up and in trouble again. Not a very tough mystery, but Parker fans won’t be disappointed.)

Cool things happen here, on occasion!

The space shuttle Atlantis, docked here in Omaha because of storms in Florida.
